BUSINESS: A Brampton, Ontario, third-party logistics provider serving customers in telecommunications, apparel, pharmaceuticals and healthcare sectors with highly flexible and integrated contract based logistics solutions.
TRANSACTION: Wynnchurch acquired the company in 2002 through a recapitalization in which the founder retained a 25% ownership stake
CHALLENGE: The Company had an excellent business model, but lacked the resources to grow beyond its current level of business.
OPPORTUNITY: To leverage Unigistix expertise as a quality and service leader over a much broader base of customers through organic and acquisition-led growth.
RESULT: In a very successful investment for all the shareholders, management and employees, we sold the company in 2004 to UTi Worldwide Inc. for approximately $75 million, including an earn-out based on anticipated future growth. As part of the sale transaction, UTi offered significant incentives to the Unigistix management team that Wynnchurch had supported, to ensure that they remained in leadership positions within the company. During Wynnchurch's ownership, the company was twice named to the list of Canada's 50 best managed companies.
