BUSINESS: Headquartered in the greater-Toronto area, Calyx is a leading provider of logistics and transportation services to the Canadian marketplace, including intermodal freight forwarding, international ocean/air freight forwarding, contract warehousing, dedicated truckload and LTL, as well as specialized LTL.
TRANSACTION: Wynnchurch purchased a majority interest in Calyx in May 2006, via a recapitalization in partnership with Calyx's management team.
CHALLENGE: Calyx has significant growth opportunities which required an infusion of investment capital to take full advantage of them, as well as to effect a recapitalization that provided liquidity to a non-active shareholder.
OPPORTUNITY: Capitalize on Wynnchurch's background and expertise in the logistics and transportation sector and provide a strong equity base for Calyx to position the company for future growth, including acquisitions.
STRATEGY: Calyx has doubled in size over the past five years and has a unique blend of asset, asset-light and non-asset based services. Wynnchurch is working in partnership with CEO Rob Donaghey, who has been with the company for 15 years and who assumed leadership of Calyx, to take advantage of the attractive market dynamics in the logistics sector.
